Mission

Butler Green Farm School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to successfully put in place the next generation of farmers to steward the precious farmland on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and to provide equitable access to organically grown food while further engaging and educating the community in farming.

Over the last 20 years we have educated more than 80 new young farmers who continue to help save our precious farmland throughout the country. Their newfound passion and dedication as young stewards of the land will help us guarantee that our communities will have access to good healthy local food for their families well into the future.

I watched Butler Green Farms grow from its beginning, and grow it did, confirming my own belief in local farms, organic farming, and sustainable feeding of local communities.
Carolyn B.
It makes sense that we have a calling to go back to our beginnings when things become unrecognizable. My time back on my family’s farm reminded me of who I am and what I value.

As a gourmet chef that's used WYSIWYG CSA for years, it's wonderful to have a pick-n-choose model. Plus the dedication to education from kids to interns to adults is wonderful.
Andrew M.
He was always willing to make every moment like a teachable lesson. He wanted us to work hard, but he was also there to stop and show us what we were seeing and explain why things were the way they were.

He has just a great ability to gather folks together from all different kinds of life and create a work atmosphere and experience that really encourages people to figure out what their assets are and then kind of go with that.

Working with him influenced me to want to farm. “I felt like he really believed in me too. He helped me out acquiring tools when I moved to my farm, he was really encouraging.
